The Square Restaurant

Serbia has a growing market of luxury hotels, restaurants, consumer goods, wellness, fashion, and services for the emerging middle and wealthy class. Tourists who move through the world with ease and are accustomed to staying in luxury spaces, Square Nine Hotel is for you. Not only to stay for a few nights while traveling in Belgrade for business or leisure, but to have an elevated dining experience.
This week I dined at The Square, one of the handful of Michelin Star recommended restaurants in Serbia, at Square Nine Hotel, one of three luxury boutique hotels in Belgrade.
Dining at The Square is an experience the moment you walk in. The softly spoken multi-lingual staff welcomed me as I entered the lobby, preparing to complete some light work before attending lunch with a friend. Many hotels are brightly lit, spacious, with exotic flowers or sculptures, and decorated with industrial furniture. The Square Nine Hotel interior designers and architect took a different approach.
Dim lights, dark aged wooded walls, tasteful contemporary furniture, and vintage atlas books, meticulously set on the coffee tables. I ordered fresh apple juice from the lobby menu, while I casually read the appetizers and previewed courses that were carefully printed in elegant fonts on high caliber matte coated paper. I took calls while I waited for my friend to arrive.
Dining out for me is tricky, as I have a special diet: no eggs, no dairy, no shellfish, no pork, but I do eat meat! This was not a problem for The Square. Our waiter expertly explained each course on the menu and my friend ordered several courses for us to eat.
The restaurant is designed with floor to ceiling windows, attracting natural light, with a calming view of trees resembling Japanese Maple. Tables are artfully placed around the room paired with soft leather chairs that compliment the high thread beige table clothes. Each table is set with Sterling silverware, crystal glasses, lemongrass and lavender scented hand sanitizers, and handcrafted silver salt & pepper shakers.
For two hours we ate several courses of flavorful food. While we had a delightful conversation, an attentive waiter skillfully cut the fillet mignon with a steak knife while wearing white gloves, gracefully placing all our dishes of food on beautiful plates, and kept our glasses full. He always appeared just when we needed him and politely asked how our dining experience was going. Dessert was a piece of edible art, followed by coffee and tea, in sophisticated glassware.
In summary, Square Nine Restaurant masterfully orchestrated a superb lunch experience. I highly recommend you to dine if you’re a foodie, enjoy fine dining, or looking for a luxury food experience.
