Saint Ten Hotel
“A Historic Trifecta: Politics, James Bond, & Luxury In The Heart of Belgrade”
We’ve all seen the James Bond movies, and if not, read the books by Ian Fleming. But do you know who the character was inspired by? Or the glamorous places where villains, spies, global powers, and the “good guys” secretly met?
Interestingly, Duško Popov, a Serbian double agent, born to a wealthy and prominent Serbian family, served as an inspiration for the character of James Bond. Trained as a lawyer before working as an agent for the Yugslav intelligence services and MI6 in covert operations, Popov was also well-known for his playboy lifestyle and charisma. Covert places for spies and political players to meet in former Yugoslavia, include what is known today as Saint Ten Hotel.
Built by famous architect Stojan Veljkovic in 1929, with a masonic influence in the design, the building hosted many important political events, parties, and allegedly a place for MI6 agents to meet and get paid.
Strategically located in the neighborhood of Vracar, guests can comfortably explore Belgrade, dine-in at L’Adresse Restaurant (the food, specifically the meat, is divine!), or quietly enjoy a drink at the lounge & bar, and sleep in one of the 56 tastefully decorated rooms/suites, I highly recommend Saint Ten Hotel.
